Overview

How Scripture meets us in loss and points us to hope. Passages from Psalms, Romans, and Revelation with questions and an action plan.

Key passages

Psalm 34:18 – "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."

Romans 8:38-39 – "For I am convinced that neither death nor life … nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

Revelation 21:4 – "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain."

Reflection

God does not dismiss our grief; He draws near to the brokenhearted. Our hope is not that we will never suffer, but that nothing can separate us from His love and that one day He will make all things new.

Questions for reflection

  • Where are you carrying grief or loss? How have you experienced God's nearness in it?
  • How does the promise of Revelation 21:4 shape the way you face death or suffering?
  • Who in your life needs to be reminded that the Lord is close to the brokenhearted?

Action plan

  • This week, bring one specific grief to God in prayer and ask Him to meet you there.
  • Read Psalm 34 and Romans 8 on Bible.com and note one verse to hold onto.
  • Reach out to someone who is grieving and offer presence or a simple act of care.
