Overview

A study on casting anxiety on God and resting in His promises. Includes passages from Philippians, Psalms, and Matthew, plus reflection questions and practical steps.

Key passages

Philippians 4:6-7 – "Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Psalm 23:1-4 – "The Lord is my shepherd … Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me."

Matthew 6:25-34 – "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life … But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

1 Peter 5:7 – "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."

Reflection

Anxiety is met with God's invitation to cast our cares on Him. Peace comes from turning our focus to His presence and His promises rather than our circumstances.

Questions for reflection

  • What tends to trigger anxiety for you? How do you usually respond?
  • What would it look like for you to "present your requests to God" with thanksgiving in one area of worry?
  • How can you "seek first his kingdom" in a practical way when you feel overwhelmed?

Action plan

  • Each morning this week, name one worry and hand it to God in prayer before you start your day.
  • Write out Psalm 23:1-4 and keep it where you will see it when anxiety rises.
  • Tell one trusted friend or family member that you are working on casting anxiety on God and ask for prayer.
