Overview

Biblical wisdom for resolving conflict and pursuing peace. Matthew 5, James 4, Romans 12 with questions and an action plan.

Key passages

Matthew 5:23-24 – "Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift."

James 4:1-2 – "What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you?"

Romans 12:18 – "If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone."

Reflection

Scripture takes conflict seriously: we are to pursue reconciliation quickly, examine our own motives, and do all we can to live at peace with others.

Questions for reflection

  • Is there a relationship where you need to "go and be reconciled"?
  • In a recent conflict, what desires or motives were at play in your own heart?
  • What one step could you take this week to make peace with someone?

Action plan

  • Identify one relationship where you can take the first step toward reconciliation.
  • Before a difficult conversation, pray and ask God to show you your own part in the conflict.
  • Read Matthew 5:21-26 and Romans 12:9-21 on Bible.com and apply one verse to a current situation.
