Marriage as Covenant
By Well From The Rock
Overview
God's design for marriage from Genesis to Ephesians. Topics include roles, forgiveness, and building a lasting covenant, with questions and an action plan.
Key passages
Genesis 2:24 – "That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh."
Ephesians 5:25-28 – "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her … In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies."
Ephesians 5:33 – "However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband."
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 – "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud …"
Reflection
Marriage is a covenant before God, reflecting Christ and the church. It is built on sacrificial love, respect, forgiveness, and the grace of the Lord.
Questions for reflection
- In what practical way can you love your spouse (or future spouse) more sacrificially this week?
- Where do you need to extend or ask for forgiveness in your marriage or closest relationship?
- How does "one flesh" challenge the way you view conflict or distance in your relationship?
Action plan
- Plan one intentional conversation or date this week to strengthen your covenant.
- Choose one action from 1 Corinthians 13 (patience, kindness, etc.) to practice daily toward your spouse or family.
- Pray together or for each other at least once this week.
